Athletics Victoria Competition

One of the club’s greatest achievements has been its ability to compete on a regular basis in the Athletics Victoria (AV) Winter premiership series. We currently have teams as high as Division 2 women’s and Division 3 men’s.

There is really no limit to the number of teams the club can enter. Juniors, veterans and all abilities are needed to help us to continue to field strong teams for 2014.

We get to travel all across Victoria, racing in the big T, doing our club proud. Distances are anything from 3.8k (around the tan track in Melbourne) to half marathon distance. This is a chance to get to know your follow harriers better, as well as push yourself to the limits. We pride ourselves on being supportive and inclusive and there is always a great team atmosphere that you don’t often get in an individual sport such as running. Most members that get involved see a great improvement in their running through racing. Sometimes, if you’re lucky you even get to meet some of the great runners like Craig Mottram or Steve Monaghetti!!

Races are approximately every second week over winter, there is a combination of individual races and relays, with some fun bus trips thrown in. There are 10 races for the year, with the first run starting in April, and the last in September:

Jells Park XC Relay – 6k;   Balnarring XC – 4k (women) & 8k (men);   Albert Park Road Race – 10k;   Lake Wendouree Road Race -15k;   Brimbank XC – 8k (women) & 16k (men);   Coliban Relays – various legs of 5-10k;   Bundoora XC – 6k (women) & 12k (men);   Geelong Road Relay – 6k;   Burnley Half Marathon;   Tan Relays (3.8k);   Those interested in Athletics Victoria competitions can obtain further info on the Athletics Victoria Events Calendar .

There is also a summer AV track & field series that some members participate in. This culminates in the AV Country Championships which are held in January each year. Traralgon Harriers have entered a number of teams in these championships over the years and a number of our runners have come home with individual medals & country championships to show for their efforts.

Entries start from March 2014, when you join up with Traralgon Harriers. You will need to join as an Athlete member to participate in AV runs. Talk to the club captains Flynn Boyle and Nicole Hauxwell or otherwise Anna Orr, Ian Twite or Todd Houghton if you want more information on taking part.
