Swaggy Wilson and Nick Schilling Memorials 12km/6km

 “Remembering Swaggy Wilson”

Traralgon Harriers 12km and 6km Road Championships

31 July 2016

Swaggy died tragically in January 1997.   He was a long time member of our club who typifies the Traralgon Harrier spirit. Friendly and helpful to all especially new members.   He will also be remembered as fiercely competitive in a healthy and friendly way.  Since his death we have dedicated the running of this 12km event with a 6km support event so everyone can join in the celebration and memory of this great club person.

Following consultation with their families the club recently decided to name the 6km event on the same day the Nick Schilling Memorial in memory of Nick who died in 2015.  Both men enjoyed running with the club for many years, they also suffered from mental health conditions and took their own lives.
The club recognizes the importance of celebrating their involvement in our club as well as promoting the mental health benefits from running.  We also encourage all members and their families to regularly monitor their own mental health as well as that of your family and friends.  It is important that we recognize that we are all vulnerable at times and we may need to seek help from family, friends and professional services such as Lifeline, Beyond Blue, Men’s helpline and the like.
NB. Any funds raised from this event will be donated to BEYOND BLUE.

Entries available online and on the day at the Peter Siddle Oval from 8am with racing from 9am.

Lifeline’s 24 hour telephone crisis support service is available to anyone needing emotional support.
