13/10/2016 Chook Hill

Chook Hill 13/10/16

The Summer Season took off on Thursday night at ‘Chook Hill’, off Old Melbourne Road in Morwell. The first trail run of the season and the beautiful Spring weather brought 35 runners out of hibernation and off for a 6km run. The run was a loop through the pine plantation overlooking the power station, with fantastic views over the hills. Runners tackled a short but very steep hill towards the end before a quick downhill to the finish. Adding to the buzzing atmosphere last night, was the excitement of the looming Melbourne Marathon Festival this Sunday, in which many of our Harriers will be participating. Look out for the big T in the crowds!

Taking out the female handicap honours was Kathryn Preston & son Matias (30.04), followed by Simone Forbes (27.43) and Allison Triggs (36.53). For the men’s handicap event it was newcomer Tim Fleay flying home in 28.34, first over the line, and displaying some excellent talent in one of his first runs with the club. Second for the men’s handicap was Tim Buckley (31.59) and in third was Clinton Jolly (24.49).

The fastest outright male for the night was Steve McLeod, completing the course in 24.46. Only 3 seconds behind was Clinton Jolly (24.49) and in third place was Pete Sanders (27.48). Simone Forbes was the fastest outright female, finishing in 27.43, closely tailed by Molly Irvine (27.50) who is gearing up for another triathlon event this weekend. Third fastest female was Kathryn Preston (30.04), a fantastic time pushing the pram up that last hill.

Seven runners completed a training run of a shorter distance. This is always an option for those looking to get into running or on the comeback from injury.

Next week’s run encompasses the beautiful Lake Hyland and surrounds, in Churchill. Join us for a club dinner after the run at the Churchill Hotel.
