Welcome to the Traralgon Harriers Athletics Club

We are a running club for people of all ages and abilities, aiming to provide a fun and supportive environment for new and experienced runners alike.

In addition to hosting our weekly Thursday Night runs, the club organises some of Victoria’s best known running events, including the Traralgon Marathon, the Walhalla Wound Up and our annual King & Queen of the Mountain.  While many of our events target the serious or more seasoned runner, we welcome people of all abilities.  Running with the Harriers means running for enjoyment, and our fun, friendly approach makes the club a great option for anyone wanting to improve their fitness and their running, while enjoying the company of positive and supportive people.

Hats off to the Summer Championship WinnersHarriersSumChamp2016_02

Traralgon Harriers celebrated the end of the 2016 Summer Handicap Championship series with a ‘Hat party’. It was an entertaining night with everyone bringing their most prized hats out for a show, although there were rumours that Molly Irvine stole Helen Whitby’s hat before the night had even kicked off! There were no prizes for best in show but as usual Karen and Glenn Graham brought their A game with some stunning head attire.

Time had come for the championship announcements, the night was stepped up a notch with Andrew Legge on point with his jokes to the ease the nervous energy in the room. As the drum roll was initiated the Lone Cowboy AKA: Pete Sanders was astonished to find out he had won the Summer Handicap Championship 2016 with a total of 548 points. A close second, only one point behind was the long time dedicated Harrier, Belinda Heafield in 547 points. It was also fantastic to see newcomer and quiet achiever Georgia Callaway come away with third place managing to accumulate 540 points. Anna Cardillo finished fourth with 533, Glenn Graham a whisker behind on 532 and Phil Mayer fifth on 518 points.

Congratulations to all winners and a big thank you to Melissa Jones and The Foot and Ankle Clinic for donating the prizes for the winners. We also had spot prizes on the night where JP and Hilary had new baseball caps made with Traralgon Harriers logos on them. If you are interested in purchasing a cap catch up with Hilary and JP on Thursday night.

The 2016 Winter Handicap Championship series starts this week, you have to be into win but as you know Harriers is not all about winning, it’s about turning up and having a go! See you all on Thursday nights.

Vale Martin Thompson

Martin Thompson: Harriers founding member, coach and motivator, club administrator, life member, international athlete, teacher, sports scientist.

Thursday Night Run / Walk

With the exception of a few weeks over Christmas, you can run or walk with the Harriers every Thursday night.  See the calendar below for the location of the next outing.  You can find all of the Thursday race results on our Results Archive page (and some happy snaps on our Thursday night photos page).

New Runners – please arrive around 5.45pm on your first night and approach one of the volunteers on duty (identified by a high vis vest).  They will register you and ensure you are covered by insurance, give you a club brochure, explain what you need to know and introduce you to a few others.  Directions to the course are available using the Google maps function from the calendar.
